YarnKittymon: : ::by evening, the traveling carnival in Marquis has started in earnest, and it's a gaudy sight, really, with thousands of colored lights on the numerous rides and hundreds of families and quite a few unaccompanied children wandering throughout, playing the games and enjoying the sights and rides. Libby is out among them, little Milo in tow, simply loving the feeling of living by a fair for a few days::
Quantum Catz: JN: ::is wandering around with some kids from the orphanage, she sees Libby and goes up to see her:: Hey, Libby
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles broadly at the girl:: Good evening. Are you enjoying the carnival?
Quantum Catz: JN: Yeah, it's been great fun
YarnKittymon: LB: I used to live in a place that was a carnival three months of the year. ::smiles sadly:: Sometimes I miss it.
Quantum Catz: JN: That sounds like the best place ever to live - why did you leave?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::sighs:: I guess you can say they don't like freaks out there.
Quantum Catz: JN: Oh, right...yeah... ::looks a bit unconfortable::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles:: *You'll* get your power under control someday, though, and then you'll be able to go wherever you like, Jenn.
Quantum Catz: JN: ::rolls her eyes:: And until then i'll just keep randomly disappearing and being late for things
YarnKittymon: LB: ::squeezes the girl's shoulder:: Oh, I'd trade powers with you any day. At least you don't hurt people with yours.
Quantum Catz: JN: You don't hurt people either though, do you?
YarnKittymon: LB: Well, not physically, I suppose, but people feel get awfully upset when I make someone they care about vanish for a bit.
Quantum Catz: JN: I guess so, hey you wanna go on a ride with me?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::laughs softly:: I'd love to, but I'm afraid I'm a grown woman now...
Quantum Catz: JN: So what? Mr and Mrs Hamilton are too but i saw them on a ride earlier
YarnKittymon: LB: ::motions to the baby in her arms:: They don't have one of *these* to take care of, though.
Quantum Catz: JN: Isn't Mr Richards here though?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles:: Off talking to a couple friends. I suppose he can handle his son for a few minutes, though. Come; we'll find him! ::quickly finds her husband, rather pressing the baby on him::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::turns back to Jenn:: So what do you like best?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::quite happily takes the baby so that libby can go enjoy herself for a while::
Quantum Catz: JN: How bout the ferris wheel first?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods, looking around:: That sounds great. I wonder if Maeve's around; she likes the rides just as well as I do.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she's standing off to the side enjoying a chocolate ice cream cone::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::laughs softly:: Maeve! Come ride some rides with us! If Jenn doesn't mind, of course. My treat.
Quantum Catz: JN: ::grins:: I don't mind, come on
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she smiles slightly; with forced enthusiasm, that maybe only Libby would catch:: Sure! ::she ditches her cone, and starts off toward the girls:: Where we headed to?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::puts her arm around her friend, trying to cheer her up:: The ferris wheel first. I suppose you can pick the next if you like though.
Maeve Owens: MV: That's good. I'm not entirely sure what all they have here yet. We'll have a good view from the top.
YarnKittymon: : ::the ferris wheel is probably three or four stories tall, dwarfing everything except the radio tower, and lit up like a Christmas tree; it does look like a fun ride::
YarnKittymon: : ::the line isn't terribly long; from the highest point on the wheel, they can see many of the simpler rides that were on Coney, from a caterpillar-type ride to bumper cars, and two mad mouse roller coasters, as well as a swing ride and the requisite haunted house, among others::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she sighs as she gazes around, but after a minute she turns to Libby:: Well, you know I'm partial to the roller coasters. ::she grins::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::grins:: Well, between us girls, I don't have any reason to worry about the jostling this week. ::pats her stomach:: So that's fine with me. This is nice, isn't it? Like old times for us, and a new experience for little Jenn.
Quantum Catz: JN: ::smiles:: The roller coaster sounds like fun
YarnKittymon: : ::when they get off the ferris wheel, Libby puts an arm around Maeve again and murmurs:: Sometimes it's *more* fun to go out without a man...
Maeve Owens: MV: ::whispers:: Yah, perhaps, but last time we went was sort of a changing point in life... ya know? ::she laughs at herself, and shrugs:: Nevermind. Ignore me. I'm turning into one of those women I cant stand.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles sadly at Maeve; softly:: Children complicate everything. ::motions to the nearest roller coaster, a very compact mad mouse, with two cars that wind around tight curves at a quick speed::
YarnKittymon: ((And I'm not sure they had multiple-car roller coasters back then but I'm gonna guess they did for mad mouse coasters ;P ))
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she grabs Libby's hand:: Come on, the front is the best.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks back at Jenn:: You okay riding alone?
Quantum Catz: JN: Yeah, it's fine
YarnKittymon: LB: ::follows Maeve into the front seat of the tiny car when they reach the front of the line::
Quantum Catz: JN: ::grins at the person running the ride and then gets into the other seat::
YarnKittymon: : ::the ride operator smiles and waves at the pleasant girl riding in back, then starts the rather jerky ride, which would be a very bad ride indeed if Libby *were* with child, as it has twists and turns and jerks almost every moment; she laughs and seems to enjoy it nonetheless though::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::her spirits seem to perk up a bit, and she laughs as she's thrown against the side of the cart::
Quantum Catz: JN: ::Right in the middle of one of the twists, she suddenly disappears, reappearing to grin at the ride operator as she did before; then turning to get on the ride, stopping when she realises what's happened::
YarnKittymon: : ::the somewhat absent-minded ride operator looks over when he hears Jenn land next to him, and does a double-take; the ride jerks more violently when it loses Jenn's weight, and then the operator throws the brakes, ramming all the passengers hard against the bars at the front of their cars, since there are no seatbelts::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she slams into the bar, knocking the breath right out of her lungs. A second later, the latch holding it there snaps, and Maeve starts to tumble right out of the cart. She screams, grabbing for anything she can hold on to::
YarnKittymon: YarnKittymon rolled 2 6-sided dice: 2 3
YarnKittymon: LB: ::just barely manages to keep in her place, and throws her arm out to Maeve, yelling::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she reaches for Libby's hand, praying she wont take Libby down with her::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::yells again as her shoulder is nearly dislocated, and she starts to fall too, bruising herself against the car::
YarnKittymon: : ::the operator looks on in dumb horror, finally shouting in a panicked voice:: Arms and legs inside the car!
Quantum Catz: JN: ::pales when she sees what's happening, looking around guiltily and wanting to run away but rooted in place::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::frantically looks around for anything to hold onto, and bites back a sarcastic remark to the operator to be used at a later time::
YarnKittymon: : ::all Maeve has to hold on to are the car and possibly the track::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she reaches out for the track with her other hand; yells:: Let go Libby before you fall!
YarnKittymon: LB: ::rather pale as she slips a bit, but she murmurs:: No way.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she gets a grip on the track; her knuckles practically turning white:: Okay, I think I got it...
YarnKittymon: LB: ::cries out:: Try to get your feet on the framework!
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she chances a look down to see where the framework is, and immediately wishes she hadn't. She pales a bit more, and has to suck in a calming breath before she attempts to move her feet into place::
YarnKittymon: YarnKittymon rolled 2 6-sided dice: 2 3
YarnKittymon: : ::Maeve manages to get a foothold::
YarnKittymon: : ::by now a crowd has gathered around the coaster, though no one's taken any action to help yet::
Quantum Catz: JN: ::looks at the operator:: Can't you do something to help them?
YarnKittymon: : ::the operator murmurs:: There's a ladder around...
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she tries to use her leg muscles to push herself further up onto the track.::
YarnKittymon: YarnKittymon rolled 2 6-sided dice: 2 4
YarnKittymon: : ::Maeve manages to get a pretty solid hold, and Libby hesitantly releases the girl's hand::
Quantum Catz: JN: Where?
Maeve Owens: MV: ::with her other hand free, she pulls herself the rest of the way onto the track. She lays there for a moment, catching her breath::
YarnKittymon: : ::looks back at Jenn, bewildered:: I don't know...don't you have a fire department or something?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::her arm's trembling, and the rest of her quickly follows suit as she scoots back into the car, murmuring:: You all right, Maeve?
Quantum Catz: JN: I don't know, i don't live here ::looks around at the crowd:: Could *someone* do something?
Maeve Owens: MV: Yeah. You? ::she peeks over the edge again then shies back, cringing at how high up they are.::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::her voice shaking:: I've been better.
YarnKittymon: : ::the operator murmurs:: I'm not from around here, kiddo.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she glances up at Libby:: Are you hurt?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::doesn't dare let go of the car to rub her sore shoulder:: Probably just bruises. You?
YarnKittymon: : ::the family in the other car is rather jostled and frightened, and one of the boys is unconscious with a gash in his head from hitting the bar::
Quantum Catz: JN: ::shouts at the crowd:: One of you must live in this town!#
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she shakes her head:: The same. ::her grip on the track hasn't lessened any::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::laughing weakly:: When do you think the dunces down there will figure out how to rescue us?
Maeve Owens: MV: ::weakly:: I don't know. Hopefully before morning. I was looking forward to a real bed tonight...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::finally comes near to the scene, and curses when he sees the cars stuck, and a figure he can't identify outside of one of them::
Quantum Catz: JN: ::runs up to Toby:: You've got to help! I don't know what to do - it's all my fault
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she looks up at the cart, and behind Libby, gasping when she doesn't see the girl there; cries:: Libby! She fell!
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods grimly:: And no one in Marquis has a ladder, huh. ::gets to work making one with the dirt beneath his feet::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks back and nearly screams:: Jenn! ::tries to lean out the car to look for the girl; when she leans out too far, the car rattles a bit::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::screams:: Libby dont!
Quantum Catz: ((could jenn hear libby from there?))
YarnKittymon: ((I assumed not, but if you like, sure))
Quantum Catz: ((s alright, was just checking in case it seemed like jenn was ignoring her))
Quantum Catz: JN: ::mutters, under her breath:: If anything happens to them it'll be all my fault
YarnKittymon: LB: ::leans out a little farther, and the car must have been knocked a bit off from Jenn's disappearance, because it starts to tip a bit::
Maeve Owens: MV: Libby stop! The cart is moving! ::she grabs onto the edge of it, as if she could keep it in place::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::sternly:: Nothing's going to happen to anyone. ::shoves a few handfuls of dirt into his pockets, then picks up his ladder and pushes his way through to the coaster, setting it up against the side and melding it to the ground to be sure it doesn't slip, then climbing up, adding rungs and sides as he goes::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::moves back to the center of the cart, sending the wheels back down to make contact with the track::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::the movement breaks her hold on the cart, and she quickly braces herself on the track again before she topples right over. However, it comes down right on her hand, and she screams::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::screams too:: Maeve!
YarnKittymon: TY: ::can hear the names by then, and curses again to himself, forming the ladder as quickly as he can:: Maeve, hang on!
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she squeezes her eyes closed, and while she tries hard not to, she's whimpering rather loudly in pain. She cringes even more when she hears Toby. For once could it be someone who didn't know her? The humiliation never ends::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::rather panicked now:: Maeve, I'm so sorry!
YarnKittymon: TY: ::is a bit tired when he finally makes it up to the track; he comes up behind Maeve and melds the back part of the offending wheel to the track, then melts the front part away entirely, keeping a hand on Maeve:: I'm gonna have to heal you.
Maeve Owens: ((uuuh... shouldnt he get Libby out BEFORE he does htat?))
Maeve Owens: ((wait, nevermind just got the full picture :D ))
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she shudders, and nods her head, not trusting herself enough to speak less she embarrass herself further by screaming again::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::gently tries to reform Maeve's smashed fingers, though of course the process is certainly painful::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she turns her face into her arm, moaning. Her hand twitches a few times as instinct kicks in, telling her to jerk her hand away::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::holds Maeve's hand as firmly as he can, though he almost loses his balance trying to do so::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she pulls her hand underneath her when he's done, and doesn't yet move to look at him, needing time to compose herself::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::rather desperately:: Toby, Jenn's fallen! Go help her, or find Isaac; maybe he can save her!
YarnKittymon: TY: ::looks up at Libby like she's mad:: Jenn's fine; she's the one who begged me to save you two. Can either of you climb a ladder, or do I have to make a rope and pulley?
Maeve Owens: MV: The cart isn't stable Toby... can you do something to make it stay put?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::melds the front wheel more securely to the track, then climbs onto the track, a bit like a monkey, and does the same to the other front wheel, also bracing them both to keep them from spinning:: Should be okay now.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::still rather pale; softly:: Take Maeve down first, and maybe that other poor family.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::shakily:: The kids should go first.
YarnKittymon: TY: ::frowns:: Only if you let me help you back into the car, Maeve.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she nods, and slowly, and shakily, gets to her feet::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::stands up on the track and tries to help Maeve into the cart, fixing the latch if she makes it in all right::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she moves carefully, afraid to jostle the cart, and she does manage to make it in without mishap. She eyes the lousy bar with contempt::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::grins:: If we were on the mainland 70 years later, I'd say you'd have a lawsuit on your hands. I'll be back in a few. ::climbs down the ladder, which is a little dangerous, since he detaches it from the side of the track as he goes::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::calls down:: Make sure to tell Jenn we're all right!
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she glances at Libby, and laughs, only wincing seconds after when it hurts her bruised stomach:: We should *never* go to fairs, or carnivals together.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles weakly:: Or at least not be allowed on the same attraction.
YarnKittymon: TY: ::once he's safely down, looks around for Jenn::
Quantum Catz: JN: ::runs over to him:: Are they okay?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods:: They asked me to get to the other car first. It's not up nearly as high so I'll have them down in no time at all. ::smiles at the girl::
Quantum Catz: JN: ::nods, still looking worried::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::hurries over to get to the other car; it takes well over half-an-hour to get the family down, and the poor injured boy is still unconsious::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she glances over the edge of the cart to see if Toby is coming for them yet::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::before he goes up to Maeve and Libby again:: Someone get Isaac!
YarnKittymon: : ::Jenn feels a big hand on her shoulder as Toby heads up the ladder again::
Quantum Catz: JN: ::was about to run and look for isaac when she felt the hand on her shoulder; jumps and turns round::
YarnKittymon: : ::a muscular man in a well-fitted suit leans down over Jenn:: Mind telling me what happened here, miss? I hear you broke the roller coaster?
YarnKittymon: : ::since Libby and Maeve can both climb down, it doesn't take Toby that much time to help them make it to solid ground; Libby winces, rubbing her shoulder, when she makes it::
Quantum Catz: JN: I didn't break it, i swear
YarnKittymon: : ::the man smiles coldly:: Then what happened?
Maeve Owens: MV: Libby? You okay? ::there's scratches on her arms, and legs, and her ribs took a beating but at the moment she's more concerned with her friend::
Quantum Catz: JN: I just...i guess i got a bit scared...and...and then the next thing i knew i was back on the ground...
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles weakly:: Nothing a bit of time, or Isaac, can't fix. ::though she winces again, touching her shoulder::
YarnKittymon: : ::the man clears his throat:: How old are you?
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she winces:: Thanks for... saving me. ::she laughs weakly.:: Sorry I hurt your arm.
Quantum Catz: JN: ::feeling a bit scared:: I...I just turned 14
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles:: I'm not sure I saved you, but you're welcome. I'm just glad you're alive.
YarnKittymon: TY: ::looks around, cursing:: Where's Isaac?
YarnKittymon: : ::the man frowns, almost disappointed:: And your name?
Quantum Catz: JN: Jenn...
YarnKittymon: : Last name?
Quantum Catz: JN: Wilson
YarnKittymon: : ::the man nods again:: And you live in Marquis?
Quantum Catz: JN: No, i'm from the orphanage in Kenston
YarnKittymon: : ::the man nods:: Well, we'll be in touch with your teachers regarding this incident.
Quantum Catz: JN: ::nods, rather relieved that that's all the man's going to do:: Can i go see my friends now?
YarnKittymon: : ::the man slowly nods again:: But I'd suggest you stay off the rides tonight.
Quantum Catz: JN: ::nods:: I will
