4:23:39 PM Julie: :  ::Maeve and David approach a small farm village.  David's superior has made it clear that if there are any more incidents, they will both regret it::

4:24:31 PM Maeve: MV: ::she frowns.:: Who is this guy again? And what is he doing living here?

4:25:30 PM Julie: :  ::David smirks::  You don't need to know his name, but he planned to kill the queen's daughter.  And--::he winces as he moves the wrong way, straining his back, which still hurts::--he's laying low here.

4:26:25 PM Maeve: MV: ::she's very pale, and despite the training her stomach is still very opposed to it.:: Fine. Which house?

4:27:10 PM Julie: DV:  ::whispers::  You know it's all about stealth, right?

4:28:30 PM Maeve: MV: ::she frowns:: Yes David. That doesn't make this any easier. Now which house is it?

4:29:25 PM Julie: DV:  Two stories, newly-shingled.  Near the edge of town.  Heavy curtains on the windows, and half of them shuttered besides.

4:31:22 PM Maeve: MV: ::smirks: Shuttered is good. ::she moves away::

4:31:56 PM Julie: DV:  ::exhales, figuring, training or no, this will be the death of him::

4:35:43 PM Maeve: MV: ::she stays hidden in the trees even when she spots the house David was talking about. She waits and listens, trying to determine if the house is indeed empty::

4:36:12 PM Julie: :  ::she can't hear any noise from inside::

4:38:38 PM Maeve: MV: ::she eyes the barn but quickly rules that out. If he has animals, they'd make too much noise::

4:40:45 PM Maeve: MV: ::she moves towards the barn, keeping in the shadows::

4:41:29 PM Julie: :  ::a short man in overalls walks towards the barn, whistling; he matches the description given::

4:42:26 PM Maeve: MV: ::she cringes and then soundlessly flattens herself against the wall of the barn. She listens carefully, waiting to move until he's gotten close enough. If she gets him on the side, she may go unnoticed::

4:43:00 PM Julie: :  ::the man doesn't seem to be paying much attention, busy wiping his hands on a cloth on his way to the barn::

4:43:57 PM Maeve: MV: ::When he gets close to the edge she's pressed against, she moves out aiming a hand at his throat to cut off any sound he may make. Her other hand tries to get at his stomach to burn him::

4:44:54 PM Julie: :  ::a little yell comes from the man's throat, not loud enough to draw attention, as he struggles against the blinding pain::

4:45:43 PM Maeve: MV: ::she presses her hand further against his throat as she pushes him farther back and out of site. She doesn't dare look at his eyes.::

4:46:42 PM Julie: :  ::the man convulses, struggling for almost a full minute before he finally goes limp::

4:47:51 PM Maeve: MV: ::she pushes him onto the ground and hits his body with another fireball. For a moment she stands there, transfixed::

4:48:19 PM Julie: :  ::the man is unresponsive, and his flesh burns under Maeve's powers::

4:49:44 PM Maeve: MV: ::she backs away, feeling sick again::

4:52:34 PM Julie: :  ::Maeve hears someone whistling the same tune the man she just killed did, although half the notes get skipped::

4:53:08 PM Maeve: MV: ::she tenses, listening for a moment, then quickly makes for the tree lines. Her steps are light, and she avoids any sticks in her path::

4:53:35 PM Julie: :  ::Maeve isn't that far before she hears a high-pitched scream::

4:54:03 PM Maeve: MV: ::she flinches but she forces herself to take cover in the trees before she looks back::

4:54:45 PM Julie: :  ::when she looks back, Maeve sees a boy maybe two years older than Milo, standing before the blackened corpse, screaming::

4:55:39 PM Maeve: MV: ::her eyes widen and she shakes her head, trying to deny what she's seeing::

4:56:49 PM Julie: :  ::a woman comes into view--she runs to the child and hugs him, then stares at the corpse; she looks about ready to fall over::

4:57:32 PM Maeve: MV: ::she ducks back, farther into the trees::

4:58:25 PM Julie: DV:  ::meets up with Maeve, no expression on his face::

4:59:11 PM Maeve: MV: ::she's whiter than he's ever seen her, and staring blankly ahead. She walks right on by him::

4:59:41 PM Julie: DV:  ::dismounts and grabs Maeve's arm, without a word::

5:00:17 PM Maeve: MV: ::she twists free and turns, losing what little she drank that morning::

5:01:00 PM Julie: DV:  ::stands back and watches; whispers::  He would have killed a little girl.

5:01:37 PM Maeve: MV: ::sharply:: He had a family! His son no longer has a father! ::she trembles::

5:02:38 PM Julie: DV:  You didn't expect that they'd all be bachelors?

5:03:03 PM Maeve: MV: ;:she shakes her head, shrugging.::

5:03:43 PM Julie: DV:  ::after a pause::  You did good this time.

5:04:57 PM Maeve: MV: ::she flinches::

5:05:25 PM Julie: DV:  If you've got to go, quick is the way to do it.

5:07:05 PM Maeve: MV: ::shakes her head:: Stop David. I don't want to hear it. ::she walks away::

5:07:43 PM Julie: DV:  ::walks after Maeve, silently::

5:09:06 PM Maeve: MV: ::she doesn't cry, refuses to. She doesn't look back at him either::

5:09:29 PM Julie: DV:  ::after a while::  The sooner we get the others, the sooner you can go home.

5:10:39 PM Maeve: MV: ::she grunts:: Right.

5:11:12 PM Julie: DV:  ::looks away::  It's that or be hanged.

5:12:28 PM Maeve: MV: ::she turns back:: I'm going through with it so don't worry. The last thing I want is to hurt my daughter more. But I'm not going to delude myself David. ::she tears up:: There's no going home after this.

5:12:57 PM Julie: DV:  ::frowns::  Why not?

5:14:22 PM Maeve: MV: ::she looks back like he's gone mad:: Are you daft? What am I suppose to do? Go back home and pretend like I'm normal? Say, hi honey, I've cold-bloodedly murdered 16 people, and made you think I was dead. Miss me?

5:15:34 PM Julie: DV:  ::winces; after a moment::  There are...other charms.  If you do well, maybe you could get one.  Come in as someone new.

5:17:09 PM Maeve: MV: ::she shakes her head:: Somehow, I doubt it is that simple. Besides, nothing stays a secret for long. Isaac... I doubt even he could love me after this. ::that threatens to break her further but she turns away, walking on::

5:17:54 PM Julie: DV:  ::shrugs::  You could...use it to visit.

5:18:44 PM Maeve: MV: ::she shakes her head:: No. I don't want to go back. I can't. If I do I'll never get go through with this. ::pauses; whispers:: I don't want to hurt them more.

5:19:34 PM Julie: DV:  ::blinks; quietly::  It's still nice to see them grow up.

5:20:28 PM Maeve: MV: ::she pauses, sucking in a deep breath:: No. It hurts too much.

5:20:57 PM Julie: DV:  It would hurt more not to know at all.

5:22:39 PM Maeve: MV: That is if Isaac would let me see her at all.

5:23:29 PM Julie: DV:  ::shrugs::  Become a family friend.  It hurts, but...it's better than never seeing them.

5:24:08 PM Maeve: MV: ::she looks up, wincing:: I don't know how you do it David. I don't think I'm strong enough.

5:24:49 PM Julie: DV:  You might not be.  But you have some time to learn.

5:25:15 PM Maeve: MV: Yeah. Time. ::she looks away, trembling::
