YarnKittymon: : ::it's nearly noon--after the church services in Marquis have let out--that Jack is led to the newly-erected whipping post in the center of the town square. His hands are tied in front of him, and there's a fair-sized crowd gathered, many in their Sunday clothes, though very few looking as though they approve. Less than half the town has shown up, however. The mayor is looking even worse than Libby, who only slept about four hours, herself::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::doesn't look particularly concerned although there's a dark look in his eyes whenever he glances at the mayor that he hasn't been seen with since fighting Seth::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::being as tired as she was, she slept right through church services but she's standing out there with the rest of the crowd, glaring at the mayor from time to time::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::stands looking calmly at the mayor, still giving him a chance to change his mind::
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor stands near the whipping post--though a few yards away from Jack--and looks out at the crowd, then back at Jack; trying to keep his composure:: Do you have any words to say in your defense, Jack Richards?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::softly:: I'm just doing what's right...which's more'n you c'n say for yerself
Quantum Catz: EU: ::gently tries to trigger the mayor's fears again with a vision of him losing his job and being forced out of town::
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor frowns, looking down at the crowd, and then shakes his head, a flush on his cheeks:: Well, I won't stand for it. ::looks up at the guards:: He's done nothing wrong; it seems to me whatever he did out there saved us all, and the councils at Gate Town can take it up with me if they have a problem with my actions. ::flashes a rather showy grin::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guards look rather startled, but one unties Jack without delay::
YarnKittymon: : ::some of the crowd cheers, though most seem baffled by the mayor's sudden change of heart::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she smiles but at the sign of his grin she rolls her eyes, shaking her head::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::rubs his wrists, looking at the mayor as if he thinks he's insane; then he glances at Libby, and seeing Edusa neaby, frowns slightly::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::grins, not really caring whether or not the mayor was trying to further his career; runs forward to Jack and hugs him; whispering:: Thank you...
Quantum Catz: JK: ::hugs her back for a moment although he soon pulls away and asks:: Did that kid do something?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks rather startled, and glances back at Edusa; very quietly:: She wanted to help.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::mutters:: I need another drink ::he heads towards the bar, muttering to Edusa, who's moved closer to them as they talk, as he passes:: And you'd better bloody get out of here in case he goes off and gets suspicious about why he changed his mind
Quantum Catz: EU: ::watches him walk away, looking rather surprised::
Maeve Owens: MV: Well, you're welcome Jack and I guess I shall talk to you all later. I've got a some things to take care of. ::smiles:: Thanks for your help Edusa. ::waves::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::puts her hand on Edusa's shoulder, smiling weakly but gratefully, then glances back at the direction Jack left in:: Do you...need help home?
Quantum Catz: EU: ::shakes her head:: No, i can always find my way to Ciama and Banrak.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods, frowning:: Then I'd best get over to Jack. ::smirks:: If you ever need anything just let me know--while I'm sleeping, anyway.
Quantum Catz: EU: ::smiles:: Thank-you, but i'm sure i'll be alright - bye
Quantum Catz: JK: ::has already ordered and downed a shot of whisky by the time Libby reaches him::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::suddenly hesitates when she enters the bar, though she finally sidles up to the bar next to Jack, frowning::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::sighs:: The kid went right? I don't want her sticking around
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods:: Are you all right?
Quantum Catz: JK: Fine. But i can't take the hits for everyone - you think that twat would've let me have her lashings too if he decided to punish her for messing with his head? ::smiles darkly and turns to order a pint::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::puts her arm around Jack's waist; quietly:: You can't whip someone for every crime, either, you know.
Quantum Catz: JK: They seem to like it here
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: He wouldn't do it to a child, Jack.
Quantum Catz: JK: Doing it to a woman ain't any better n that's what he was gonna do
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks up at Jack; quietly:: It's all right now. Don't torture yourself over it anymore.
Quantum Catz: JK: I ain't - i just don't like it ::takes a swig of his beer::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::sighs, then sits down and orders a beer::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::remains silent as he drinks::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::drinks half her beer as soon as it comes; softly:: You're the bravest man in town.
Quantum Catz: JK: I ain't brave
YarnKittymon: LB: Then what *do* you call it?
Quantum Catz: JK: I just do what i've got to - always have, always will.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looking down at her beer:: That's what makes it so brave.
Quantum Catz: JK: You shouldn't need to be brave to do what's right
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles at him:: You're startin' to sound like a poet there.
Quantum Catz: JK: smirks:: Ain't no poet neither, words were never my thing
YarnKittymon: LB: ::still smiling:: A good man, then? May I at least call you that?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::chuckles:: So you believe that now? Told ye i wasn't so bad
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I guess I should've believed you, then.
Quantum Catz: JK: Guess so
